I currently work as an associate professor in the History Department and Urban Studies and Planning Department at UC San Diego. I am also the Director of the Institute of Arts and Humanities.

I earned my BA in history at UC Berkeley, my MAT at Harvard GSE, and my PhD in history from Columbia University in 2006.

My first job as a tenure-track assistant professor was at NYU Tandon School of Engineering (at the time, Polytechnic.) While completing my PhD, I worked at LaGuardia Community College, Brooklyn College, Fordham University, Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, Barnard College, and Columbia University. And much earlier, I also taught English in Busan and high school history in San Francisco.
