How to introduce yourself to a professor

How to talk to a professor about a grade

Send an email that has the following components:

  • Your name, class name/time, your TA (if you had one)

  • A concise explanation of what grade you received and why you think it is not representative of your work

  • An explanation of any conversation(s) you already had with your TA (if applicable)

Do NOT:

  • appeal because you simply want a higher grade. No offense, but you should have thought about that before completing assignments/exams.

  • appeal because your grade is close to another grade. For ex., if you earned a 92% and you want the professor to push it up to an A, that simply isn’t going to happen. You earned a 92%.

  • appeal to the professor before the TA (unless there is some serious external circumstance such as feeling unsafe)
